Many thanks to the Social Justice Team, and especially Lucy Manning and Ron & Linda Giancola, for engaging us in the Climate Justice Revival event put together by the UU Climate Justice Coalition.  It was a moving service and ritual, even for those of us attending via Zoom as I did due to Covid.

The second part of the Climate Justice event happens tomorrow, Saturday, October 5, from 2 to 5pm in our sanctuary.  Be part of identifying climate justice issues specific to our region and begin planning how we as a congregation can make a difference!  Through dialogues and discussions we will seek together to

  • Identify opportunities for climate justice in our unique context
  • Develop a vision of a flourishing future
  • Identify a clear set of potential actions that we can take to realize this vision
  • Enable participants to understand their roles in the interdependent ecosystem of creating climate justice and collective liberation,

The event ends with a potluck dinner to celebrate our work together.

These kind of things don’t happen often.  Most of the time, UU congregations go about their ministries separately.  Collaboration is difficult, let alone a decision for every UU to join in this Climate Justice Revival at the same time.  Lucy Manning attended the facilitator training for this event with other UUs from across the country.  It’s important to feel that, even when working in our little corner of the world, that we are part of a bigger national conversation that is moving the work for climate justice forward.

If I had to get Covid again, it was I guess convenient that it was over a weekend when we had already planned for using some of the materials developed for the Revival.  I am feeling much better and have tested negative Wednesday, yesterday, and today.  I appreciate all the well-wishes and understanding.  I’ll keep testing for the next few days just to be sure, but I fully expect to be in the sanctuary again this Sunday.

And I hope to see many of you tomorrow. Let’s reimagine together how we can be part of moving our community from a paradigm of extraction to one of community and justice in which we honor our place as part of a sacred and interdependent web of life.

peace,

Rev Joe
