Thank You to the Social Justice Team and Side with Love

Cup of Joe, February 28, 2025

We are all looking for ways we can take action to disrupt the agenda of hatred and bigotry being enacted by the oligarchs and autocrats currently trying to run our country.  Every day is a new outrage that somehow outpaces how outraged we were yesterday.

The congregation’s Social Justice Team is doing a fabulous job of organizing and mobilizing and empowering us to take action.  Take a look at their most recent list of “Actions and Opportunities You Can Do Now“!

As a supplement and complement to the UU Saratoga Social Justice Team, I encourage you to also connect with the Action Center put together by Side with Love, the organizing strategy team of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

The Action Center offers a Weekly Update which will be updated every Tuesday.  The update for February 25, 2025, is here. I find the Weekly Update to be a very readable and usable resource.  It is a helpful way of being able to stay abreast of what is happening in a way that is empowering rather than overwhelming. The information there is organized around four intersectional justice priorities:

  • Climate Justice (inclusive of Indigenous sovereignty and Climate Resilience) with Create Climate Justice

  • Democracy and Electoral Justice (inclusive of Voting Rights and electoral participation) with UU the Vote

  • Decriminalization (inclusive of Racial Justice and Immigration Justice) with Side With Love

  • LGBTQIA+ and Gender Justice (inclusive of reproductive justice and abortion access) with UPLIFT Action

And each of the four sections of the Weekly Update is organized into different sections that summarize what is happening, give you tools and resources to act on, and what you might read or watch to learn more.

These are such trying times, I am grateful for the UUA’s work to support us.

And while I’m on the topic of gratitude, Social Justice Team? I see you.  I am so proud of you and grateful for you. You are doing amazing things and are a source of hope.

Let’s do all we can to connect with and support one another.  Together is our power. Together is how we’ll make it through.

Love,

Rev Joe
