It’s more fun to explore new places with friends than alone. That’s my main thought in proposing that we establish an informal group called the UU Saratoga Outing Club.
If we all have the same information, we can connect informally at various points of interest on dates and at times we might collectively decide. Our main function will be to share information about great ways to enjoy the outdoors, being surrounded as we are by mountains and wilderness. We’ll be like The Crooked Canes.
Take for example the Thurman Fall Farm Tour, the 16th edition of which is coming up this Saturday, October 12.
Together, Thurman, Stony Creek and part of Warrensburg form a distinct rural community on the southeast edge of Wilcox Lake State Forest, nestled between Crane Mountain and the Hudson River where Thomas Durant laid tracks for the Adirondack Railroad in the late 1860s. This area is the closest thing we have to Switzerland and it’s right in our own backyard.
If you’re interested in joining a group that’s going up from Saratoga Springs, please let me know and I’ll keep you in the loop on plans as they develop. Just drop me a note at dan@smartacus.com.
It appears we’ll continue to be blessed by this great fall weather!
