Adult Religious Exploration
Our members are lifelong learners devoted to personal growth and development, and to contributing to the church and other communities. Our minister, Rev. Joseph Cleveland, and members themselves organize and lead a range of study groups and periodic workshops, including the following:
Small Group Ministry
By meeting in small groups, members are able to foster deep connections, personal growth, and spiritual exploration. These intimate gatherings allow members to engage in honest, meaningful conversations, share their life journeys, and support one another through joys and challenges. Small-group ministry nurtures a sense of belonging and community, breaking down the barriers of isolation often felt in larger congregational settings. By providing a space for individuals to reflect on and live out UU principles, small-group ministry enhances the overall spiritual vitality of the congregation, promoting a culture of compassion, understanding, and mutual care.
Web Camps
These are dynamic member-hosted online workshops that aim to enhance skills, broaden perspectives, and foster community connections. Web Camps enable members to explore new interests, deepen their knowledge, and connect with others. These camps cover a broad range of topics, including creative writing, mindfulness practices, social justice advocacy, environmental sustainability, and personal development.
History of UUism
Rev. Cleveland provides a comprehensive understanding of how UU principles of freedom, reason, and tolerance emerged and continue to evolve. Participants explore key figures, historical events, and theological shifts that have shaped the development of Universalist and Unitarian thought, culminating in their merger as Unitarian Universalism in 1960. This program aims to deepen members’ appreciation of their religious heritage and inspire a connection to the ongoing journey of Unitarian Universalism.
Reading the Tao De Ching
Rev. Cleveland explores the timeless wisdom of this classic Chinese text through thoughtful readings and discussions that delve into the text’s philosophical insights and relevance to contemporary spiritual practice. Participants gain a deeper appreciation of Eastern thought and its potential to enrich their personal spiritual journeys and broader UU principles. Rev. Cleveland emphasizes the commonalities and unique contributions of Eastern thought to the broader tapestry of global spirituality, encouraging interfaith dialogue and personal reflection.
Book Group
The Book Group meets monthly to discuss a wide variety of books selected by group members. These books span various genres, including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and spiritual texts. Discussions are lively and engaging, providing a space for members to explore different perspectives, share insights, and deepen their understanding of the world. The Book Group is a great opportunity for members to connect over a shared love of reading and engage in thoughtful conversations.
