UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CONGREGATION OF SARATOGA SPRINGS BREAKS GROUND ON NEW HOME AT 404 LOUDON ROAD
WILTON, NY — August 27, 2026 — On Wednesday, August 26, a brand new chapter in the Unitarian Universalists of Saratoga Springs’ future began. The groundbreaking celebration at 404 Loudon Road brought a crowd of congregants, friends, and stakeholders together to acknowledge the culmination of many years of planning and work.
Art Holmberg, the Task Force chairman, welcomed builder Steve Kessler and Project Manager Sam Larter from Bast-Hatfield; architects Don and Sue Davis of S.D. Atelier; media representatives; and Dr. Toni Strum, Town Supervisor of Wilton. His remarks celebrated the hard work of planning, approvals, and fundraising, as well as the financial support and vision of so many UU members. Holmberg also emphasized the importance of this building being a beacon for the gathering of the greater Saratoga community where everyone is welcome and able to thrive.
Reverend Viola Abbit invited the assembly to hold one hand over their heart and the other extended over the land, to bless the future of this land as their New Home. Hard hats and gold-plated shovels were then distributed to the Board and Task Force members, symbolically breaking ground to officially mark the event during a joyful moment for all present.
Following the ceremony, attendees walked down the temporary road to see the actual area where the new building will stand. Surrounding the entire property, large trees offer the natural beauty that will frame the finished project. This focus on Nature aligns with a major core value of UUs: honoring the interdependent web of all existence. Three acres of the new land will remain forever wild, featuring hiking trails and a planned bird sanctuary.
The groundbreaking marks a dream coming true for many Saratoga UUs as construction officially gets underway.
