Does morality depend on direction from a supreme being, or are there other sources of motivation to do the right thing? This essay answers the question for me and traces my journey through the process of establishing my reasons for acting.

Mike Goodwin is the current treasurer of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Glens Falls and a former treasurer of UUCSS. A former high school mathematics teacher and teacher’s union officer, stock broker, and newspaper district circulation manager, Mike resettled from Long Island upon retirement in 2018.
