It takes a lot of volunteers to stage the Holiday Fair. Pictured above in the Lawon basement are Bev Lawson, Tari Lee Sykes, Katie Long, Audrey Belt, and Becky Hawkins.

For more than a decade, the annual Holiday Fair at UU Saratoga has been a cherished tradition, bringing the community together to celebrate the season.

This year’s event, set to take place on Saturday, December 7th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., promises to be another festive and meaningful gathering. Jenn Pratt started the tradition 12 years ago and Bev Lawson has carried it on for the last eight years as chair of the fundraising committee.

“It’s been a labor of love for all of us involved,” says Bev. “We’re always amazed by the outpouring of support we receive from the community.”

This year’s fair will feature a diverse array of handmade items, from quilts to jewelry to baked goods. Yoshiko Kamiya, a friend of the congregation who lives in Japan, has donated two quilts that Bev describes as “truly stunning.”

“In addition to the quilts, the fair will showcase the talents of local artisans, such as Cecy Krajewski, who creates a table full of handmade items each year, including tree ornaments and table runners.

The 20 wreaths made from the bounty of boughs cut and transported from Sandy Blakelock’s beautiful property on the Great Sacandaga Reservoir will be delivered to their buyers at the Fair.

To add to the festive atmosphere, the organizers have planned a cozy outdoor area with a fire pit and chairs, where visitors can take a break from shopping and roast marshmallows in making a S’mores.

“The diversity of the items on offer is really what makes this fair so special,” Bev said. “There’s something for everyone, and it’s a wonderful way to support local creators while also giving back to the community.”
