“BLACK & BANNED”: Refusing to Let Our History Be Whitewashed

WHEN: Sunday, February 23rd 2:00p to 4:00p

WHERE: Frederick Allen Elks Lodge #609, 69 Beekman Street, Saratoga Springs, NY

WHAT: I.B.P.O.E. of W.’s Frederick Allen Elks Lodge #609 and Mary A. Carter Temple #362, the two oldest black civic organizations in Saratoga Springs, NY, along with Our Lodge Foundation, are recognizing Black History Month with an opportunity for people to share readings from banned books by authors of Color or books that have been banned for calling out racism. Anyone is welcome to participate by reading a short passage from a banned book and giving the reason why the book was or is banned.

“We celebrate the stories of our people by making them public.”

This event is meant to celebrate the freedom to read without government or public interference – an essential right to creating a better world for everyone.

The event is free and open to the public.
Donations to support FAL #609 and MACT #362 are much appreciated.

Please note: FAL’s Bar will not be open. However, soda and water will be available for purchase.
